Mrs Buckley

Hello, I am Mrs Buckley. I am delighted to be a part of the Highwood team, and I am excited to be teaching Year 4. My background is teaching in secondary schools as an English specialist and I thought it was time to bring these skills to the younger years and help prepare them for their educational journey into a secondary setting. One of my strengths is building relationships with my students. My teaching style is lots of fun with firm and distinct boundaries. I love anything related to reading, writing and imagination. I believe books help us explore new worlds and broaden our minds.

Before teaching, I spent over twenty years as a hairdresser, so do not be surprised if my hair changes regularly, or your children arrive home with new hairstyle suggestions!

Outside of school, you will find me and my husband walking our little dog Luna, who is the cutest dog in the world. I can also usually be found with my head in a book, as I am currently entering my third year of studying for my PhD in Children’s Literature – I do like to be busy!

Mrs Downes

Hello, I am Mrs Downes.

From the age of five, I told anyone who would listen that when I grew up I wanted to be the Prime Minister and a Teacher – so I’m halfway to fulfilling my childhood ambitions! I’ve had the pleasure of teaching children from Reception through to KS2 and am driven to make learning as natural and enjoyable as possible. For me, a day has been a success if the children go home tired from all the effort they have put in and looking forward to the next day at school. I’m a creative and practical person, so I like to spend my time drawing, writing, cooking and gardening – when I’m not running around after my family, that is!
